Lithography Weekend: Colour and Editioning

This weekend intermediate level course is designed for those who have experience in basic black and white lithography and know how to etch basic drawing materials.

We will be looking at printing an edition using colour ink. You will learn the basics of printing a consistent small edition, how to modify colour ink and learn how to print using a rubber roller.

In a collaborative setting we will draw on two stones, processing and preparing the stones for printing on Day Two. 

Course Structure

First day:

We will be looking on how to plan and prepare a lithography print for a successful editioning.

In a collaborative setting we will draw on the lithography stones, process and roll up the stone.

We will talk about the importance of registration and paper preparation when printing an edition and learn the simple and easy T and bar registration technique. 

Second day:

This second day we will be looking at how to mix lithography colour ink and how to modify the ink for successful printing. There will be a demonstration on how to use and print with a rubber roller. The rest of the day the participants will be printing the editions and we will carefully study the prints to understand how to print a consistent edition.

About the Tutor

Nora Hammenberg is a printer and artist from Sweden, who is based in Leeds. Nora is a certificated collaborative lithography printer by the prestigious Tamarind Institute of Lithography in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. She also studied printmaking at Gotheburg's School of Art in Gothenburg, Sweden, and at Ålgårdens Print Workshop and Galleries in Borås, Sweden.

Nora runs a small lithography workshop in Leeds called Stone Tree Press where she collaborates with artists and teaches courses alongside her own art practice.

Nora is dedicated to sharing her knowledge of lithography to keep these traditional skills and techniques alive.
