An introduction to printing letterpress on an Adana 8x5 Press. A day course covering all aspects of printing letterpress from case, to paper! Via the backbone of British hobbyist printing - The Adana Press.
Course Structure
10:00 - 10:30 introduction to the space and studio
10:30 - 11:30 demonstration on how to set metal type, lock up a simple forme, and get to grips with the basics of letterpress
11:30 - 13:00 time for you to get going! Set your own phrase, line or body of text depending on confidence and proficiency! Take proofs using the galley proofing press, Quick demo of the Adana presses before the afternoon.
13:00 - 13:30 Lunch break - time to gather your thoughts and fuel up for the afternoon.
13:30 - 14:00 introduction to the Adana 8x5 press.
14:00 - 15:30 set up your very own Adana Press, register and then print what you’ve set in the morning, onto various paper stocks.
15:30 - 1600 clean up, demonstration on how to efficiently clean down an Adana press, and tidy your spaces.
This is subject to change depending on skill level and the group we have - but it gives you a good idea of what we’ll be doing throughout the day.
About the Tutor
Theo Miller is a visual artist and printmaker, born in Leicester. He gained a first class degree in Fine Art from De Montfort University in 2014. Miller is currently living and working in Leicester as an Artist and also as a Technician for De Montfort University.
Printmaking, for Miller is an axis, a locus. He describes the beauty of printmaking to be that the final image is always affected by, and integral to the process itself. Miller is currently focusing on letterpress, after being granted the Print Futures Award 2017.
