Introduction to Multi Block Lino

This method of lino printing uses more than one piece of lino to create multi coloured images.

Each block is layered up to print a different colour so is more forgiving than reduction linocut. The tutor will be sharing some of his insight and experience on how to use two lino blocks to create a colourful print, explore the use of colour in your work and how to separate colours onto multiple blocks.

The outcome of the course will be a two colour A5 linocut print. A great beginner course or one to add range to existing skills.

About the Tutor

Jonathan Costall is a Printmaker who specialises in Linocut portraits. Currently he is working on a series of portraits which combines his duel passions of art and football.

Over the past couple of years he been focusing on sports illustration and has had several of his prints used in different publications across Europe.

He studied BA (hons) Fine Art at De Montfort University where he decided to specialise in Printmaking. After graduating he then went on to study at Wimbledon School of Art where he gained an MA in Fine Art Printmaking in 2005.

Leicester Print Workshop 

Leicester Print Workshop is the regional development centre for printmaking. Established by artists in 1986, we are a registered charity, supported by Arts Council England. Our RIBA award-winning building is situated in Leicester City Centre's Cultural Quarter and is home to a large, well equipped open access Printmaking Studio.

We have over 30 years’ experience of teaching people printmaking. Our programme offers the largest number and broadest range of printmaking courses in the region, with courses suitable for beginners as well as experienced printmakers, delivered by practicing artists and nationally renowned tutors. Participants learn in small and friendly groups in our purpose-designed studio.
