"Fantastic space and workshop, excellent tutor and staff all very friendly and helpful. Will definitely be back for more workshops." March 2019

This two-day course is a thorough introduction to the basics of stone lithography. If you are curious to know something about the mysteries of lithography and want to have some fun finding out more about this wonderful printmaking process, this is the ideal place to start.

During the weekend we will look at the original process of stone lithography and take you through how to prepare a stone, draw the image, ink the stone and print the lithograph. Participants will have the opportunity to print from stone and see something of the complex process that enables Jurassic limestone to reproduce hand drawn marks.

Course Structure

Saturday

On Saturday we will cover how to prepare a lithography stone for drawing by graining it. We will draw our images on two stones shared by the group.

In the afternoon there will be a demo of how to process the stones through the first etch.

We will also look at lithography prints to get an idea on how lithography can be used in many different ways.

Sunday

In the morning we will have a demo on how to wash out and roll up a lithography stone and how to etch the stone a second time. Through team work you will now wash out, roll up and etch the two stones.

In the afternoon we will print both stones.
