Date & Time Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd July 2023
10.00am - 4.00pm
Tutor  Soraya Smithson and Katy Goodrich

This experimental course takes screenprinting from an editioning process into a means of creating one off pieces by using abstract colour pulls, simple stencil making, colour overlays and repeat printing of photographic imagery. Since the late 1950s, artists like Oscar Murillo, Robert Rauschenberg and Andy Warhol used screenprinting to overlay, amend, embellish and over write their work, legitimising screenprinting as Fine Art and this weekend course will be an opportunity to experiment with some of these techniques.

    About the Tutor

Soraya Smithson is an artist working in multiple mediums and has been a member of Leicester Print Workshop for over twenty years. She was the first lithography fellow at LPW and switches between stone and plate lithography, reduction lino print, letterpress and screen-printing depending on the idea. As an artist, Soraya is interested in the daily rituals of life: the relationship of the domestic environment with the outside world. She creates environments and things inspired by and referencing other artists, and literature.

Leicester based artist Katy Goodrich has been a part of Leicester Print Workshop for the last 10 years. Starting as a volunteer she then undertook a 5 year apprenticeship at LPW learning all aspects of print and in 2020 Katy became a technician here in the studio.

Specialising in screenprinting, Katy uses underwater photographs to create her work mainly using the CMYK colour separation technique.
