Photoplate lithography offers the printmaker a wonderful way to work with hand drawn images, photographic material, and text. This two day experimental workshop will focus on the technicalities of this process and explore platemaking, multi-plate printing, and overprinting, using the direct transfer and off-set lithography presses. As a workshop designed to build skills and confidence with the process, we will be working collaboratively on shared projects, alongside individual activities. The one day course, 'Monoprint: a technical tool kit', is an ideal partner to this two day workshop.

    Course Structure

DAY ONE: Platemaking and printing: Using provided materials, participants will learn now to expose, develop, and print photo-lithography plates using direct and off-set presses. Preparing artwork for further plates: participants will create and assemble artwork for further plates.

DAY TWO: Platemaking and printing: Artwork created by the participants will be used to expose, develop, and print further  plates using the direct and off-set presses. Monoprinting: monoprint techniques with the off-set and direct lithography presses will be used to add additional layers of colour and tone to the prints.
