Making Impressions - Monoprinting with Textiles

Experiment with printing textures from a wide range of fabrics. Using knitting, fine crochet, ribbons, weaving, jute, string, lace, and netting, we will make beautiful, delicate, and fierce embossed monoprints. Pasha will provide a selection of textile-based items suitable for printing from or feel free to bring your own – depth no more than about 3mm, unfortunately the presses won’t take Aran! These will get inked so don’t bring anything too precious.

Course Structure 

Day 1

• An introduction to printing with textiles
• Demonstration of blind (no ink) embossing with different textiles on standard printing paper
• Experimentation with textures and composition
• Blind embossed printing on a higher quality paper
• Demonstration of inking and printing different textile surfaces (one colour)
• Cleaning and tidying and close

Day 2

• Demonstration of inking textiles (two colour)
• Experimentation with inked, embossed prints with an array of colour options
• Combining both blind embossing and inked prints
• Cleaning and tidying and close

Leicester Print Workshop 

Leicester Print Workshop is the regional development centre for printmaking. Established by artists in 1986, we are a registered charity, supported by Arts Council England. Our RIBA award-winning building is situated in Leicester City Centre's Cultural Quarter and is home to a large, well equipped open access Printmaking Studio.

We have over 30 years’ experience of teaching people printmaking. Our programme offers the largest number and broadest range of printmaking courses in the region, with courses suitable for beginners as well as experienced printmakers, delivered by practicing artists and nationally renowned tutors. Participants learn in small and friendly groups in our purpose-designed studio.
