Screenprinting is a versatile and accessible technique that is perfect for creating bold, graphic artwork. You will learn how to translate your original art into print and create a series of single-colour and two-colour screenprints. By the end of this course you will have the knowledge and confidence to screenprint on your own.
About the Tutor
Beach is a freelance illustrator who has been making his own screenprints since 2006. He works mainly in pen and ink and loves the way screenprinting transforms the hand-drawn line.
Week 1: Introduction to screenprinting
Studio and equipment overview; how to prepare a screen for print; printing with open screens and paper stencils; how to design positives for more detailed images.
Week 2: Printing using photo stencils
Preparing positives for print; coating and exposing screens; mixing inks; printing a single colour image.
Week 3: Printing more complex images
Making colour separations; techniques for registering multiple colours; printing a two-colour image.
Week 4: Becoming a self-reliant screenprinter
Extending your technique; troubleshooting; overprinting; re-using screens.
