Leicester Print Workshop is delighted to present our three day Winter Printmaking Schools in early 2024.

Taking place over the last weekend in January, these three day immersions will give participants a chance to dedicate time to their printmaking practice. With a choice of Bookmaking, (with Rahel Zoller), Offset Lithography Zines (with Sue Baker Kenton) and Reduction Linocut (with Peter Rapp), participants will enjoy the opportunity to experiment, play, explore and focus on their chosen technique.

These courses build on the successes of our popular weeklong Summer Schools, and present a new opportunity for artistic development, inspiration and growth over Winter.

Spend three days experimenting with collage, text , stencils and drawn work to create your own zines, pamphlet books and posters. Using Photo plate lithography and monotype techniques combine drawn and photographic imagery with text. Print small editions and unique copies using, amongst others, LPW’s new offset lithography press. During this intensive Winter school purposeful play, collaboration and exchange will be encouraged as you experiment and translate your ideas into images. We will look at examples print as a tool for communication, print as protest and consider the relationship between narrative and the book form.

About the Tutor

Sue Baker Kenton is a visual artist whose work is rooted in observational drawing. Her images evolve over time in a considered and reflective way, echoed by the processes in which they are rendered: primarily etching and lithography. After completing her masters Sue received Arts Council funding, which enabled her to study Stone Lithography at the Curwen Print Studio. She was Artist-in-Residence at LPW 2012-13 and in 2016 Sue was appointed etching fellow at Royal Academy Schools. In recent years she has undertaken research trips to Crown Point Press, San Francisco, to Art Print Residence, Barcelona and has completed annual drawing residencies in Reims and Tarn since 2017. In 2021 she received Arts Council DYCP funding and in 2022 visited Frans Masereel Print Centruum, Belgium as part of their collaborative residency programme. Her work is regularly selected for open exhibitions and public collections include the Victoria & Albert Museum's Word & Image Department.
